Our favourite slushy recipes

Our slushy makers and blenders also have a little recipe book to get you started, however, we can’t wait to share more of our fave slushies with you right here. So check out our top homemade slushies to suit any occasion!

The Simple Summer Slushy

Slushy machine on a metal silver surface with straws, sweets and a cup filled with blue slushy liquid

You need:

  • Any flavoured squash of your choice
  • Lemonade
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 2oz cold water
  • 1 tbsp of rock salt

This slushy is a quick classic from back in the day! It’ll bring back childhood memories of running around the garden with ice pops and water pistols immediately. It’s also the simplest recipe in our guide as this slushy is made up of many kitchen cupboard staples. Before you ask, we know what you’re thinking: why salt? Well, the salt will create that desired thick slushy effect that means each icy treat won’t melt too fast in the heat – so there will be no tears over melted snow cones from the little ones!

The Cocktails O’Clock Slushy

Two cocktails in glasses with cucumbers and a cocktail slushy maker in a kitchen

You need:

  • 250g frozen raspberries or strawberries
  • Prosecco (we’ll let you choose how much!)
  • Tonic or soda water
  • A dash of mint
  • Plenty of ice

Without a doubt, this slushy recipe is for the adults who want a boozy brunch or a bit of extra drink in their dessert after dinner! Combining any type of fruit with alcohol in a slushy goes down a treat, so feel free to experiment with different combinations! For our Cocktails O’Clock Slushy, the ingredients are fruity, sweet and with an extra dry kick, thanks to the prosecco bubbles added. It’s a new twist on the classic combination of strawberries and prosecco!

The Ice Cream Soda Slushy

Coca cola in a glass with ice and a straw on a black table

You need:

  • Fizzy cola of your choice
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • Ice cubes
  • A tall glass
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Cola bottle sweets, sprinkles and a cherry

Inspired by the classic American coke float desserts, this slushy is a doddle to make and is sure to impress everyone when it’s time for dessert. Put your cola and ice cubes in the slushy maker as usual and grind up the ice to create your base mixture. Scoop up your vanilla ice cream and pop it in the bottom of the tall glass, then pour your homemade cola slushy mix over it. Top it off with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, cola bottle sweets, sprinkles and a cherry for that classic retro look.

The Iced Coffee Slushy

A creamy ice coffee slushy in a glass with caramel syrup

You need:

  • 3 cups of chilled instant coffee
  • An ice cube tray
  • 1 tbsp of Maple syrup
  • ¼ cup of milk or non-dairy alternative
  • Feel free to add whipped cream, nuts, sprinkles and all the goodies you love
  • Chocolate and caramel drizzle

Calling all of my fellow caffeine addicts: we have a homemade slushy with your name on it! This recipe requires a little extra prep the night before but it’s well worth the wait. Stick the kettle on and make a cup of Joe with an instant coffee brand of your choice. When it’s all mixed together and cooled, pour the concoction into an ice cube tray and pop it in the freezer overnight. Your coffee ice cubes are perfect for preserving the rich coffee flavour even as your slushy starts to melt. What should you do with the other 2 cups of coffee? Leave them in the fridge overnight to chill and brew. When you’re ready, pop all your ingredients in the slushy maker, as usual, blend it up and then start adding your favourite toppings like whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate sauce… it is mouth-watering just thinking about them all!

There are so many more combos we could share with you on how to make the perfect slushy at home. Not only are they easy peasy to make but there’s always room to improvise with your own delicious recipes and toppings. We want you to start summer off with a sweet treat so why not check out our fantastic Neo Direct slushy makers, ice cube makers and more kitchen appliances online.

How to host the best garden party

Hosting a garden party can be stressful but there’s no need for it to be! Here at NEO Direct, we have assembled some of the finest tips for you to consult so that those worries about hosting a BBQ can melt away just like the ice in your drink.

BBQ Garden Furniture

One way to impress your guests is by having the best BBQ garden furniture and here at NEO Direct, we have just the pieces that will make your neighbours jealous. Firstly you will need a place for your guests to sit and we’re pretty sure you don’t want to be scrambling to find the ‘emergency chairs’ hours before your guests arrive. It’s best to be prepared and we have a selection of essential garden party furniture that will take your BBQ to the next level.

Heat your guests with a 2KW Electric Quartz Garden Patio Heater which will radiate heat up to 15 square metres so no one has the excuse of going home early because they’re cold. The heater is waterproof and can be adjusted to 3 different heat settings making it a must-have piece for a garden party.

If you don’t think that this will impress your in-laws or hard to impress neighbours then we’re pretty sure that this next piece will. A black fire pit is the perfect fixture to gather around when the sun sets and can double up as a BBQ during the day.

The all singing all dancing BBQ

Over the years the BBQ has become a status symbol of garden parties and here at NEO Direct, we have the perfect show-off piece for you to cook with. A large BBQ will keep the ‘dads and uncles corner’ of the gathering in awe at the sheer functionality of the fixture. With multiple compartments for cooking and storing food, your guests won’t be left hungry (unless you burn the sausages) and will allow you to cook different items throughout the party with ease.

How to get a BBQ going

Let’s set the scene – your guests have all arrived and are chatting away with their drinks in their hands. Then your neighbour (Sandra, from number 4 who always reminds you which bin should out) rubs her stomach and declares that she’s “quite peckish” and asks when the BBQ food will be ready. Usually, this would make your heart sink and cause you to stress, but after following the handy tips we are about to give you, you can calmly tell Sandra that the “food shouldn’t be too long – sausage or burger?”.

How to light a BBQ

  • Preparation is key! You will want to set up the BBQ before your guests arrive and make sure that it is away from the main area where guests will be sitting, away from trees or fences. You are setting up an open fire so you need to be careful of your surroundings and keep an eye out for any children or pets that could be around.
  • Ensure that you use long-handled BBQ tools as you don’t want to burn any fingers. A trip to A and E will definitely not get you a nomination for ‘Best Garden Party of the Year Award”.
  • Buy good quality charcoal as this will ensure that the fire lights easily, for longer and will cook the food (Sandra doesn’t want food poisoning).
  • Set the charcoal out in a stack and place the occasional firelighter or scrumpled newspaper ball between the coals as this will make sure that the coals start to heat up.
  • It is important to know when your coals are ready to cook over. Follow our coal colour guide to know when to start cooking.
    • Black or Grey (With flames) – steady on, it’s not ready yet – have another drink and wait.
    • Glowing white with red centres – ready for direct heat.
    • Ashy white but still hot – ready for indirect heat or cooking in the coals.
